PERFORMANCE
Woody has been performing since his first piano recital at six years old. He was inspired at an early age by the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix et. al. and began on guitar. He has performed steadily with numerous bands since his early teens; studied at Berklee College of Music and with the late John Mehegan.
Woody has played with and for many noted (pun) N.Y. metro area musicians including the late, great Melvin Sparks, Jeff Smith, Scott Spray, Gil Paris, Scott Lebish, Kip Sophos and others. Currently, he can be seen performing throughout the tri-state with the “Dina & Woody” duo.
MUSIC INSTRUCTION
Woody teaches piano, guitar and electric bass to all ages 5 and up; all levels, all styles, beginner to professional.
Beginning and Novice students should expect to learn fundamental technique, ear development and reading on the instrument. Ideally, this will be the focus of the first half of each session. The second half will concentrate on making music and exploring the creative side of the art form.
Intermediate and Advanced students will focus on, happily, whatever they want. Emphasis will be placed on identifying and bolstering weaknesses, a systematic (efficient) approach to practice and a fundamental understanding of music theory (the science of music). All of this will target the larger goal of helping the student in finding his or her own creative voice.
If you have professional aspirations, it should be noted that several of Woody’s former students have been accepted into music programs at prominent schools. Some currently enjoy full time music careers.
Woody has also conducted performance and theory workshops/clinics and so-called guitar “master classes” and makes himself available for such.
